Oh the bane of all crafters lives. Where to put all the yarn?!
There are many options for storing yarn and a quick search on Google presents a myriad of ideas. And for every idea, there is a reason behind it. Do you want to show off your yarn? Protect it from little critters? Hide it from your other half?
We’ve made a list of our favourite yarn storage ideas for hiding, showing off or protecting your stash.
Plastic crates are probably the most obvious and simplest of options. They are available in tons of colours and sizes that will fit your budget and storage space.
How about showcasing your yarn? Many furniture stores sell shelves that are perfect for the job. Ikea amongst others have some great options like the Kallax and Gnedby. Arrange your yarn by colour and you have a beautiful display that is also functional!
If you have a large blank wall, why not create your own form of installation art by installing a peg board? By rewinding your yarn into centre pull balls, you can slide them onto the pegs and make your own creative display.
If you have a smaller stash (ahem), why not try a beautiful basket or glass container? Store bought options are easily available or alternatively, create your own and reduce your stash at the same time!
Another great idea is using hanging storage. There are several options but Ikea comes up trumps again. Try this or this and hang in a wardrobe or even somewhere in a corner where it become a feature of its own.
A favourite or ours are antique or reproduction medicine or library cabinets. These are usually subdivided into small drawers or doors, often glass fronted. These cabinets are beautiful on their own but with colourful yarn arranged and visible through the glass, the cabinet comes to life!
