When i moved to Hong Kong, the first thing I did was look for a knitting group to join. I`d just arrived from the UK where knit nights were held in pubs over a pint of beer (the next day I`d wonder how I didn’t notice that slipped stitch!)
Knit group, for me, was a great way to meet new people, get some help when stuck on a pattern or just have a good old chinwag (chat) with likeminded people.
Knitting, and indeed handicrafts in general, have enjoyed a recent surge in interest and this inevitably led to knit nights. Here in Hong Kong, I went along to the Wednesday group to see what everyone was up to.
The ‘chicks with sticks and chooks with hooks’ group meet every Wednesday night from 7pm onwards at Starbucks in IFC and everyone is welcome.
The group ranges from between 7-10 crafters, all with different skill levels. There were some working on cable needles, some working on lace, a cute dog coat and even a very creative and brave knitter designing and knitting without a pattern!
If you are new in a city, knit nights are a great way to meet people and maybe learn something new. Crafters are in general a friendly bunch and this group is no exception. Additional meet ups are sometimes arranged for special event like the Olympics or international knit day and are coordinated via the groups' Ravelry page so be sure to follow that board.
Drop in on a Wednesday and don`t forget your knitting or crochet.
